The aim of the project is to outline and analyse the response of trade union organisations in managing the opportunities and challenges concerning labour issues in the context of digitalisation. The analysis will take into account the activities of the three main Italian unions (CGIL, CISL and UIL) and examine (where existing) the sectoral divisions that are directly involved in the representation of digital workers. Considering that the subject of digital labour has recently been introduced among the strategic union goals, the study could empirically reconstruct the phases of trade union (re)organization in a non-traditional context.
The innovative nature of the research lies mainly in the organisational approach in the study of trade unions struggling with the representation of the new forms of work that emerged from digitalisation. The latter has helped to modify a part of the union organisational environment - in particular workers and firms - and consequently, this could have an impact on the logics of action and on the organisational structures themselves. Considering that the theme of digital work has recently been introduced among the strategic goals for unions, the study could empirically reconstruct the phases of their (re)organization in a non-traditional context.
