La nuova annata della Rivista, coincidente con il cambio nella Direzione, si apre con una ricca serie di ricerche dipartimentali su vasti temi e lungo un largo intervallo cronologico e un'ampia area geografica.

The Italian Archaeological Expedition to Ebla has always paid attention to the preservation of the site. When the Royal Palace G was brought to light, the expedition started considering the problem of its preservation and/or restoration in the interest of the Syrian Authorities of the site and for the general public’s curiosity. In the late 1990s, thanks to an important grant from the European Community, a plan for the preservation of all the monuments of the site started.

The volume collects the papers presented during the International conference “Sensing the Past. Detecting the Use of the Five Senses in Ancient Contexts”, held in Rome on June 4th 2018. Our attempt was to verify if, based on the presentation of specific case studies, through which it might be possible to identify some element – limited in time and spaces for thus possibly more reliable – of a “conscience of the perceptions” in the ancient Near East.

Il contributo intende analizzare l'impatto della politica urbanistica della dinastia dei Severi sulla città antica. Non solo nell’urbanistica della Città (monumenti, edifici, infrastrutture), nella sua organizzazione (uffici, strutture politico-amministrative), nei suoi servizi (acquedotti, annona, edifici per spettacolo), nel suo sistema di controllo (militare e paramilitare) ma pure, in forme più pervasive e intangibili, nella definizione della sua dimensione religiosa e giuridica e nella realizzazione della sua nuova ‘immagine’.

The attention towards the registration of damage to ancient archaeological sites and historical places in the Mediterranean and the Near East has increased because of the frequency of deliberate destruction.
