cardiovascular disease

A longitudinal study on perceived health in cardiovascular patients. The role of conscientiousness, subjective wellbeing and cardiac self-efficacy

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the world’s most prevalent chronic disease and the leading chronic cause of morbidity. There are several psychosocial factors associated with quality of life during CVD. Our main objectives were to analyze the roles of conscientiousness, subjective wellbeing and self-efficacy beliefs. The sample comprised 514 patients (mean age 63.57 years) who were assessed twice over a nine-month interval.

Peri-implant diseases and metabolic syndrome components: a systematic review

OBJECTIVE:
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is defined as a spectrum of conditions associated with an increased risk of developing CVD and type 2 diabetes. MetS include: hyperglycemia, hypertension, visceral obesity, dyslipidemia with elevated values of triglycerides (TG) and low levels of HDL. The aim of this review is to provide current knowledge of the relationship between MetS, its components and peri-implant diseases.

Oral health conditions and cardiovascular diseases in elderly italian patient

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to investigate
the associations between oral health status and presence
of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in elderly patients.
METHODS: The study population consisted of 533 patients
(308 females, 225 males) aged 65 to 98 years. The mean age
of patients was 73.93 (±7.8 standard deviation (SD)). Patients
were asked to visit the Geriatric Dentistry Department of
“Policlinico Umberto I” of Rome for a routine check of their
oral health status. All subjects gave informed, signed consent

Carotid artery aneurysm in HIV. A review of case reports in literature

Abstract 19 Background : 20 HIV infection may affect cardiovascular system through different physio pathological patterns 21 including viral vasculitis, thrombophilia induction, opportunistic infection, major HIV vasculo- 22 tropic coinfections and secondary effects of antiretroviral therapy. Vessel pathology may 23 manifest as obstructive disease, dissection or aneurysm conditions that may involve major , 24 medium or small vessels, in different arterial branches.

Increased plasma proneurotensin levels identify NAFLD in adults with and without type 2 diabetes

Context Neurotensin (NT), an intestinal peptide released by fat ingestion, promotes lipid absorption; higher circulating NT levels are associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D), obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Whether NT is related to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has not been fully investigated. Objective To study the relationship between plasma proneurotensin 1 to 117 (pro-NT), a stable fragment of the NT precursor hormone, and the presence/severity of NAFLD/NASH and to unravel correlates of increased pro-NT levels.

Severity of OSAS, CPAP and cardiovascular events: a follow-up study

BACKGROUND: Previous studies suggested obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) as a major risk factor for incident cardiovascular events. However, the relationship between OSAS severity, the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment and the development of cardiovascular disease is still matter of debate.
STUDY OBJECTIVES: The aim was to test the association between OSAS and cardiovascular events in patients with concomitant cardio-metabolic diseases and the potential impact of CPAP therapy on cardiovascular outcomes.
