The pretext of veil. A research on the conceptions of gender and mixed relations of Islamic young women and men living in Italy

Migrant families and second generations play a key-role in present European change concerning gender orders. Their efforts whether to adapt themselves to western mentalities and lifestyles or to preserve their own traditions and identities unavoidably overlap and impact on the struggles on opening or closing gender relations, by reintroducing rigid identities and dichotomies in continuously transforming societies, by contrasting the blurring of boundaries, by proposing new meanings and perspectives in conceiving women and men.

Italian food suits Korean women

This paper analyses the negotiation transformation of Italian food tastes in Korea, focusing on how Koreans perceive Italian food (henceforth ITF), their evaluation criteria, how they adjust them into local taste in relation with the re-creation of glocal identity. It will highlight how the authenticity or the image of ITF and Italianness indicates that its defence is expressed along two lines: criticism of the “Koreanization” of ITF, but also the perception of Italianness in terms of a search for Koreanness in ITF.

The newly founded centers in the Agro Pontino. From the local to the global, from the past to the contemporary, to the future

At the beginning of the Twentieth century, new cities and new villages were founded in the Agro pontino of southern Lazio, proposing an architecture capable of both interpreting the language of modern movement and to be respectful of the genius loci. The architecture of these newly founded cities, as for other Italian and European centers, was often the expression of authoritarian social and economic models or, in any case, incompatible with a democratic and pluralistic vision of society.
