Prognostic value of p16 protein in patients with surgically treated non-small cell lung cancer; Relationship with Ki-67 and PD-L1

Background/Aim: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the leading cause of cancer death. Patients eligible for surgery have better overall survival rate than patients who are not eligible. We investigated the prognostic value of p16 in patients who underwent surgery for lung cancer, in association with other factors such as PD-L1 and Ki-67. Materials and Methods: Expression of p16 was evaluated along with the presence of Ki-67 and PD-L1 in 256 NSCLC patients treated only surgically.

Admission heart rate and in-hospital course of patients with Takotsubo syndrome

Background: In-hospital course of patients with Takotsubo syndrome (TS) is quite heterogeneous and life-threatening complications are not uncommon in the acute phase. The role of heart rate (HR) as a predictor of prognosis has not been sufficiently investigated in this setting. The study aims to assess the impact of HR at presentation on in-hospital course of patients with TS. Methods: The study population included 221 patients with TS enrolled in a multicentric registry. HR at admission was evaluated on the first electrocardiogram.

Utility of tumor burden score to stratify prognosis of patients with hepatocellular cancer. Results of 4759 cases from ita.li.ca study group

Background: Dichotomous models like Milan Criteria represent the routinely used tools for predicting the outcome of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, a paradigm shift from a dichotomous to continuous prognostic stratification should represent a good strategy for improving the prediction process. Recently, the tumor burden score (TBS) has been proposed for selecting patients with colorectal liver metastases. To date, TBS has not been validated in a large HCC population.

Prediction of hearing recovery in sudden deafness treated with intratympanic steroids

The present study aims to obtain a probability model allowing the prediction of the auditory recovery in patients affected by sudden sensorineural hearing loss treated exclusively with intratympanic steroids. A monocentric retrospective chart review of three-hundred eighty-one patients has been performed. A Probit model was used to investigate the correlation between the success of the treatment (marked or total recovery according to Furuashi's criteria), and the delay between the onset of disease and the beginning of therapy.

Radiotherapy in metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer patients with oligo-progression during abiraterone-enzalutamide treatment. A mono-institutional experience

Background: Some patients experience oligo-progression during androgen receptor targeted therapy (ARTT) treatments. This progression might not indicate a real systemic drug resistance, but a selective monoclonal resistance. With the aim to delay the start of new line treatments we treated oligo-progressive sites with radiotherapy. Methods: From June 2011 to Febrary 2019, 29 consecutive metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients were submitted to radiotherapy for oligo-progression (1-3 sites) during ARTT for a total of 37 lesions treated.

The prognostic impact of cancer stem-like cell biomarker aldehyde dehydrogenase-1 (ALDH1) in ovarian cancer. A meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association of cancer stem cell biomarker aldehyde dehydrogenase-1 (ALDH1) with ovarian cancer patients' prognosis and clinico-pathological characteristics.
METHODS: The electronic searches were performed in January 2018 through the databases PubMed, MEDLINE and Scopus by searching the terms: "ovarian cancer" AND "immunohistochemistry" AND ["aldehyde dehydrogenase-1" OR "ALDH1" OR "cancer stem cell"]. Studies evaluating the impact of ALDH1 expression on ovarian cancer survival and clinico-pathological variables were selected.

CT texture analysis of liver metastases in PNETs versus NPNETs: correlation with histopathological findings

Purpose: To compare CT and Texture features of liver metastases in Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (PNETs) and in Non-Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (NPNETs) according to tumor grading, overall survival (OS), time to progression (TTP) and Ki67 index. Methods: 23 patients with PNETs and 25 patients with NPNETs affected by liver metastases were compared. The lesions were G1 and G2 according to WHO classification of tumors.
