Smart Homes and Services design approach for AAL in Italy

Analyses of demographic trend in Italy indicate that in the near future elderly people will steadily increase. This phenomenon is affecting many other countries worldwide. According to the contingent rise of ageing population, there is an enhanced interest of politics and institutions to promote new forms of residences based on home care, as an alternative to retirement in assisted living facilities and an effective solution to reduce costs of social and health services.

The EU strongly fosters the promotion of Active and Healthy Ageing and encourages Independent lifestyles for older adults, in order to optimize opportunities for wellbeing and social participation and to achieve an high level of quality of life.

A user-centred approach for an AAL platform supporting personalized services for the elderly

The EU research strongly encourages digital innovation in care and assistance and fosters the promotion of innovative services for the elderly. The development of advanced devices and systems in domestic and urban environments aims to improve their quality of life. Based on an interoperable and wireless system, integrated into an open cloud-based architecture network, smart technologies are enabling factors to smart personal services.
