Rapid and sustainable recovery of phenolic compounds from olive mill wastewater with gold nanoparticles

Phenolic compounds represent one of the most important and ubiquitous groups of plant
metabolite. They have possible beneficial implicaons in human health, such as their an-
microbial, an-carcinogenic effects and their anoxidant acvity. Phenolic compounds could be
considered like “quality molecular markers” in food. During the producon process of Olive Oil
is generate an important by-product: the olive mill waste water (OMWW). OMWW consist of
the water contained in the drupe, the washing water and the process water. In OMWW is

Saving soil for sustainable land use

This paper experiments with some costs-benefit analyses, seeking a balance between soil-take and buildability due to land policy and management. The activities have been carried out inside the MITO lab (Lab for Multimedia Information for Territorial Objects) of the Polytechnic University of Bari. Reports have been produced about the Southern Italian Apulia Region, which is rich in farmland and coastline, often invaded by construction, with a severe loss of nature, a degradation of the soil, landscape, and ecosystem services.

Binders alternative to Portland cement and waste management for sustainable construction – Part 2

The paper represents the “state of the art” on sustainability in construction materials. In Part 1 of the paper, issues related to production, microstructures, chemical nature, engineering properties, and durability of mixtures based on binders alternative to Portland cement were presented. This second part of the paper concerns the use of traditional and innovative Portland-free lime-based mortars in the conservation of cultural heritage, and the recycling and management of wastes to reduce consumption of natural resources in the production of construction materials.

Hempseed oil quality parameters. Optimization of sustainable methods by miniaturization

Industrial Hemp, Cannabis sativa L., is characterized by low content of THC (<0.2%). An edible oil with excellent nutritional proprieties is obtained from cold pressing of hempseed. Since Hempseed oil is not reported in a Regulation yet, in order to ensure quality parameters, it is necessary to optimize standard methods (taken from the Regulation for EVOO). In this work, the standard method of quality parameters (free fatty acidity, peroxide number, and anisidine number) were miniaturized and optimized for Hempseed oil matrix.

Wine marketing. A literature review

This study concerns a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) about wine marketing. Due its characteristics, for its complexity and heterogeneity, wine can be considered as a special product for marketing studies. Through searches performed by selected keywords on databases, we have identified 255 relevant peer reviewed articles useful for our review objectives. The found articles were divided in five clusters: consumer studies, marketing management studies, tourism studies, organic wine and sustainability and, lastly, country of origin and branding.

Streetscape for healthy life

The road as a meeting place for public life seemed to have ended in oblivion. The urban culture had decreed its death, first with the apodictic proclamations of Le Corbusier, who in fact only thought to separate the pedestrian and vehicular flows and to create roads inside buildings and buildings in the form of streets. Then, in the cybernetic age and in the era of the celebration of "non-places", contemporary life seemed destined to remain confined in virtual squares animated by social networks or in the shopping centers.

Recuperare il rapporto con la terra. L'agricoltura nelle periferie urbane
