This article is a comprehensive survey about "Sylvetser I" (Jan 31, 314 to Dec 31, 335 CE) in the Brill Encyclopedia of Early Christianity Online, that aims to provide a critical review of the methods used in Early Christian Studies and to update its historiography. It provides a critical overview and an updated historiography about the Pope and about Actus Silvestri, an hagiographic text through which Sylvester acquired a fundamental role in the political-religious events of the first 30 years of the 4th century CE, especially in relation to the emperor Constantine.
