The Sciex ZenoTOF 7600 system is a high-resolution tandem quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer (mass accuracy below 2 ppm) with a mass range of 20–40,000 Da. It is a state-of-the-art mass spectrometer that combines performance features not previously offered by a single MS configuration. It delivers unprecedented sensitivity and diagnostic capability thanks to a radical advancement in ion-trapping and fragmentation technologies. The first key innovation is an ion trap (Zeno Trap) that, by rapidly pulsing the accumulated ions into the TOF detector, is able to enhance instrumental sensitivity and increase the linear dynamic range, reaching the standards of a triple quadrupole (currently the benchmark for quantitative analysis). The second groundbreaking innovation is the dual fragmentation system, based on a conventional collision-induced dissociation (CID) device and an electron-activated dissociation (EAD) system.
Together, these features allow reliable quantification through MS measurements at unmatched speed (confirmatory quantitative analyses), the characterization of high-molecular-weight molecules for proteomics studies, discrimination among positional isomers of small molecules, lipid identification (lipidomics), and the detection of hundreds or thousands of metabolites in a single analysis (metabolomics).
