Vertical guided bone regeneration with mineralized cancellous bone allograft in a severe anterior maxillary defect: a clinical report with 14-year follow-up

Purpose. To report the supracrestal bone regeneration of approximately 10 mm using solvent-dehydrated mineralized cancellous bone allograft and nonresorbable membrane in rehabilitation of unsuccessful implants in the anterior maxilla and stability of the regenerated bone at the 14th-year follow-up. Case Presentation. A 24-year-old female patient with a history of anterior dentoalveolar trauma resulting in the loss of upper left incisors and canine underwent rehabilitation several years ago with three implant-supported fixed prostheses.

Survival and complication rates of tooth-implant versus freestanding implant supporting fixed partial prosthesis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Purpose: This systematic review was performed to compare tooth, implant and prosthesis failures and biological and technical complications in toothimplant vs freestanding implant supported fixed partial prostheses, in order to evaluate the effectiveness and predictability in combining teeth and implants in the same fixed partial prosthesis.

Evaluation of adjunctive efficacy of diode laser in the treatment of peri-implant mucositis: a randomized clinical trial

Peri-implant disease may affect survival of dental implants. The aim of the study is to analyze the effectiveness of diode laser as a supportive modality to the non-surgical conventional treatment of peri-implant mucositis (PiM) and initial peri-implantitis (PI).
Twenty-three patients with single implants suffering from PiM or initial PI were selected and randomly divided into two groups;
control group (CG) received non-surgical conventional treatment, and test group (TG) received non-surgical conventional

The Use of a novel porcine derived acellular dermal matrix (mucoderm) in peri-implant soft tissue augmentation: Preliminary results of a prospective pilot cohort study

Objective. Over the years, several techniques have been proposed for soft tissue augmentation around dental implants in order to improve keratinized mucosa width (KMW). Recently, a porcine derived acellular dermal matrix (Mucoderm) has been proposed as autogenous graft substitute in order to avoid palatal harvesting and obtain comparable results to connective tissue grafts, in terms of aesthetics and function. The aim of this study is to present the one-year follow-up results of this matrix in peri-implant soft tissue augmentation procedures. Material and Methods.

Crestal bone loss around dental implants placed in head and neck cancer patients treated with different radiotherapy techniques: a prospective cohort study

The aim of this prospective cohort study was to evaluate how the radiation technique can affect crestal bone loss and the implant survival rate in head and neck cancer patients treated with radiotherapy. In this study, the type of radiotherapy treatment, i.e. three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) or intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), was the predictor variable. The primary outcome variable was crestal bone loss, recorded at implant placement and after 3, 6, 12, and 24 months. A descriptive analysis and ANOVA test were performed; significance was set at P<0.05.

Clinical and volumetric analysis of peri-implant soft tissue augmentation using an acellular dermal matrix: a prospective cohort study

Background: The role of keratinized mucosa in promoting peri-implant health is controversial, however recent evidence support the use of soft tissue augmentation procedures around dental implants. Soft tissue substitutes have been proposed to replace autogenous connective tissue grafts, therefore the aims of this study are to report clinical and volumetric three-dimensional changes in mucosal thickness (MT) 1 year after treatment with an acellular dermal matrix (ADM). Methods: Soft tissue augmentation was performed at second-stage surgery in the premolar maxillary area with an ADM.

Attitude in radiographic post-operative assessment of dental implants among Italian dentists: a cross-sectional survey

There is a lack of evidence in the attitude and prescribing practice of implantologists in dental implant post-operative assessment; therefore, the aims of this cross-sectional study were to investigate these habits and the knowledge about radiographic aspect of retrograde peri-implantitis (RPI) among Italian implantologists. A questionnaire was sent via email to dentists randomly selected from the register of implantology and oral surgery societies.

The effectiveness of chlorhexidine and air polishing system in the treatment of Candida albicans infected dental implants: an experimental in vitro study

Background: Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory disease with an increasing diffusion rate which can affect the long-term survival of a prosthetic rehabilitation. The present study focused on the decontaminating efficacy of chlorhexidine and air polishing system with sodium bicarbonate powder against Candida albicans, a microorganism which seems to have a superinfecting opportunistic role in the pathology. The aim of the authors was to investigate and compare the effectiveness of these treatments, commonly used in clinical practice.

Prevalence and treatment of retrograde peri-implantitis: a retrospective cohort study covering a 20-year period

Objectives: The aims of this retrospective study were to report data on the prevalence of retrograde peri-implantitis (RPI) in a single-center in a 20-year observation period and to evaluate implant survival after surgical treatment. Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted screening all patients who underwent implant treatment in a private practice. Patients were enrolled if they had one or more implants showing a radiolucency around the implant apex, without implant mobility.
