malocclusion

Orthodontic screening and treatment timing in preschoolers

Dental and stomatologic problems in childhood need to be diagnosed and managed with multidisciplinary protocols focusing around the children an appropriate prevention, diagnosis, and care program. Therefore, it is paramount to avail of screening tools that provide an indication of in-depth multidisciplinary diagnostic flow. The aim of this study is to detect and evaluate malocclusion problems and predisposing factors in an Italian preschooler population.

Association between age and severity of malocclusion in the pediatric age: a cross-sectional study

The establishment and subsequent worsening of a malocclusion is the result of a combination of factors dominated by the interaction between inheritance and environment and follows a dynamic process of temporal evolution. This transversal study, based on a sample of 579 children from the Caserta area in Southern Italy, investigates the potential worsening of malocclusions with age by measuring the relationship between the severity level of orthodontic abnormalities, evaluated through the IONT-DHC classification, and the age of the subjects.

Skin irritation from a facial mask in Class III malocclusion: evaluation of individual silicone chin cups in a group of 100 children

BACKGROUND:

Reverse headgear (a facial mask) is one of the most frequently used interceptive orthodontic devices in patients with Class III malocclusion. It is a simple device but may present some drawbacks related to pressure on the skin generated by the forehead and chin supports linked to the maxillary intraoral appliance by elastics. This can cause injury to the chin and lips.
METHODS:

Evaluation of vision in gnathological and orthodontic patients with temporomandibular disorders: a prospective experimental observational cohort study

Objectives: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), orthodontic diseases, and vision dysfunctions seem to be strictly related. The purpose of this study was to prove the relationship, to evaluate the prevalence and the distribution of vision defects in dysfunctional and orthodontic patients, and to establish the type of the relationship.

The combined use of clear aligners and computer-guided piezocision: a case report with a 2-year follow-up

AIM:

An orthodontic treatment is described that combines the use of clear aligners and computer-guided piezocision to overcome the drawbacks of traditional corticotomy in accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. The relapse at the 2-year follow-up was also evaluated.
