The article aims to observe the construction of lists of indigenous gods in
the Franciscan chronicles produced during the first century of Novohispanic
history. This will allow us to reflect on the uses of comparison in New Spain
and on the legacy that this debate provided to the History of religions as a
Modern discipline.
