Globally, the number of hip fractures is expected to double between 2017 and 2050, from ~2.2 million to ~4.5 million. For the purposes of analgesia and remobilisation, ~ 99% of hip fractures should be fixed surgically, requiring anaesthesia. Surgery for hip fracture has become increasingly standardised, but peri‐operative medical and anaesthetic care varies considerably. Peri‐operative morbidity and mortality remain high. Guidelines exist for the anaesthetic management of patients with hip fracture, but are specific to the healthcare systems of Western nations.

Rationale, aims, and objectives: The application of resilience in health care requires the shift from a cause-effect approach to a systemic approach, yet few tools have been developed to measure resilience potential in this specific context. This study tests a resilience assessment grid (RAG) questionnaire to measure the resilience of anaesthesiologists, with a cross-country survey. Method: A study was conducted with an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) questionnaire containing 57 detailed questions; 16 nations and 172 respondents were involved in the study.

Despite growing attention to the ability of patients to provide informed consent to treatment in different medical settings, few studies have dealt with the issue of informed consent to major orthopaedic surgery in those over the age of 60. This population is at risk of impaired decision-making capacity (DMC) because older age is often associated with a decline in cognitive function, and they often present with anxiety and depressive symptoms, which could also affect their capacity to consent to treatment.
