A theoretical and empirical linkage between road accidents and binge eating behaviors in adolescence

This study aimed at identifying specific clusters of maladaptive emotional-behavioral symptoms in adolescent victims of motorbike collisions considering their scores on alexithymia and impulsivity in addition to examining the prevalence of clinical binge eating behaviors (respectively through the Youth Self-Report (YSR), Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (TAS-20), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS-11), and Binge Eating Scale (BES)).

Internet Addiction among Young Adult University Students: The Complex Interplay between Family Functioning, Impulsivity, Depression, and Anxiety

International research has underlined that both interpersonal, self-regulation, and comorbid variables can lead to a higher risk of developing internet addiction (IA) among young adults. To date, no studies have explored the interplay between young adults’ family functioning, impulsivity, and psychopathological difficulties.

Effects of Natural, Urban and Historical-Urban Environments on Children affected by ADHD in Italy

Attention is essential to development and is important for executive functioning. Unfortunately, a growing number of school children suffer of chronic attention deficit such as the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It is important to consider that many of these very young patients are pharmacologically treated and need to deal with side effects that may occur.

ADHD children: what role does the outdoor environment play into alleviating or worsening their symptoms? A comparison of three settings.

Attention is essential to development and healthy life. Unfortunately, a growing number of school children suffer of chronic attention deficit such as the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Most literature is focused on the role that social environment plays in child development whereas scarce attention is paid on the physical environment, both built and natural.

Effects of Total and Partial Sleep Deprivation on Reflection Impulsivity and Risk-Taking in Deliberative Decision-Making

Study Objectives: To evaluate the effects of total and partial sleep deprivation on reflection
impulsivity and risk-taking in tasks requiring deliberative decision-making processes.
Participants and Methods: Seventy-four healthy young adults were selected to participate
in two independent experiments, each consisting of a crossover design. In Experiment 1, 32
participants were tested after one night of regular sleep (RS), and after one night of total
sleep deprivation (TSD). In Experiment 2, 42 participants were tested following five nights

Financial literacy, Debt burden and Impulsivity. A mediation analysis

After the 2008 crisis, EU regulatory authorities and policy makers started to devote resources to improve households’ financial literacy, considered as a key element of debt decisions. However, the role of another crucial determinant of debt burden has been neglected in such financial education programmes. The present study examines the role of impulsivity and financial literacy as predictors of debt burden in a sample of 445 individuals. An ad-hoc built indicator of financial literacy and scores on the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale were used as regressors.

Resting heart rate variability predicts inhibitory control above and beyond impulsivity

Heart rate variability (HRV) has been linked to effective functioning of prefrontal-subcortical inhibitory circuits. Despite the recognized role of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) in executive functions linked to inhibitory capacity, studies linking HRV to executive functions are inconsistent, likely due to potential confounders.

A meta-analytic investigation of consumer over-indebtedness: the role of impulsivity

In the past decade, evidence has been accumulated on the relationship between impulsivity and over-indebtedness. Nevertheless, the magnitude of such association is still considered marginal compared to traditional socio-demographic and economic factors, with the important consequence that impulsivity continues to be ignored in policy interventions for preventing and dealing with over-indebtedness. The aim of this study was to meta-analyse existing studies to answer the question: Are higher levels of impulsivity associated with greater over-indebtedness?
