Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) and its related products: biomolecular characterization of the liquid fibrinogen

Liquid fibrinogen is an injectable platelet concentrate rich in platelets, leukocytes, and fibrinogen obtained by blood centrifugation. The aim of this study was to analyze the release of different growth factors in the liquid fibrinogen at different times and to assess possible correlations between growth factors and cell counts.

Culture conditions influence satellite cell activation and survival of single myofibers

Single myofiber isolation protocols allow to obtain an in vitro system in which the physical association between the myofiber and its stem cells, the satellite cells, is adequately preserved. This technique is an indispensable tool by which the muscle regeneration process can be recapitulated and studied in each specific phase, from satellite cell activation to proliferation, from differentiation to fusion.

Ocular mucous membrane pemphigoid: a review

Ocular mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a rare, immuno-mediated chronic progressive condition of the conjunctiva characterized by blisters developing from sub-epithelial tissue through disruption of the adhesions between the conjunctival epithelium and the sub-epithelium. Patients with ocular MMP, in many cases, develop profound conjunctival scarring and visual impairment. Furthermore, ocular MMP may lead to a progressive secondary corneal vascularization and to corneal opacification.

Brain gliomas and growth factors: immunohistochemical, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry and RT-PCR profile in pediatric age

Gliomas represent over 50% of tumors occurring in children. Evidence suggests that glioma stem cells (GSCs), maintained by the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β1) pathway, and vascularization substantially contribute to tumor aggressiveness. The identification of important angiogenic factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) may represent a crucial step in the therapeutic approach against tumor growth and metastatic diffusion. The aim of this study was to identify the expression of TGF-β1, VEGF and VEGF-receptors in brain gliomas.
