Anomalous Phenomena on Regular and Irregular Domains: Approximating Complexity for the Applied Sciences

We aim to find new results in Probability, Analysis and Statistics concerning motions on regular and irregular domains with reflection on regular and irregular regions of the domains. By reflection we mean elastic (Robin), slow (sticky) and skew (transmission) reflection. By “irregular domain” we mean “fractal domain” and “domain with fractal boundary or fractal interface”. Our analysis includes the connections between fractional dimension (irregular domains) and fractional calculus, that is equations involving fractional (or non-local) operators.

Stochastic analysis of seismic ground response for site classification methods verification

A database of numerical ground response analyses has been generated to assess the effectiveness of site classification
schemes adopted in seismic building codes. 1-D Ground models have been generated with a stochastic
approach based on a Monte Carlo procedure and the corresponding seismic response has been evaluated by the
equivalent linear elastic approach for a set of natural strong motion records. The study is intended to contribute
to the discussion of optimal subsoil classification schemes in terms of inter-class dispersion and reliability of the
