Functional neuroimaging in migraine

Background: We have reviewed the results of several functional MRI studies that have highlighted the key role in migraine pathophysiology of the cerebral intrinsic organization and functional networks interconnectivity.
Overview: From pain-related and task-independent fMRI study, migraine appears as a complex neurological disorder associated with migraine phase-dependent abnormalities of function of brain networks involved in multisensory information integration and processing, limbic and pain control, and cognitive aspects of pain.

Scleroderma with an update about clinico-pathological correlation

Scleroderma is divided into a systemic form called systemic sclerosis and a localized form also called morphea. According to 2013 ACR/EULAR Classification Criteria for Systemic Sclerosis, developed by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR), skin thickening of the fingers extending proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joints is sufficient for a patient to be classified as having scleroderma. Histological examination is not included in the diagnostic criteria and is not routinely performed.

Er:YAG laser, piezosurgery, and surgical drill for bone decortication during orthodontic mini-implant insertion: primary stability analysis-an animal study

It is important to identify factors that affect primary stability of orthodontic mini-implants because it determines the success of treatment. We assessed mini-implant primary stability (initial mechanical engagement with the bone) placed in pig jaws. We also assessed mini-implant insertion failure rate (mini-implant fracture, mini-implants to root contact). A total of 80 taper-shaped mini-implants (Absoanchor® Model SH1312-6; Dentos Inc., Daegu, Korea) 6 mm long with a diameter of 1.1 mm were used.

Preliminary result with incisional negative pressure wound therapy and pectoralis major muscle flap for median sternotomy wound infection in a high-risk patient population

Deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) represents a dangerous complication that can follow open-heart surgery with median sternotomy access. Muscle flaps, such as monolateral pectoralis major muscle flap (MPMF), represent the main choices for sternal wound coverage and infection control. Negative pressure incision management system has proven to be able to reduce the incidence of these wounds' complications. Prevena™ represents one of these incision management systems and we aimed to evaluate its benefits.

The effectiveness of negative pressure therapy on infected wounds: Ppeliminary results

Vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) therapy is a sophisticated system that maintains aclosed, humid, sterile and isolated environment. Wound infection is considered arelative contraindication. The objective of this study is to extend the indications forVAC therapy to include infected wounds by demonstrating its ability to increase theantibiotic concentration in the damaged and infected tissues. Patients who presentedwith ulcers infected with daptomycin-sensitive bacteria were eligible to be enrolledin this prospective study.

The assessment of hemineglect syndrome with cancellation tasks. A comparison between the bells test and the Apples test

Unilateral spatial neglect (USN) is a frequent consequence of acquired brain injury, especially following right hemisphere damage. Traditionally, unilateral spatial neglect is assessed with cancellation tests such as the Bells test. Recently, a new cancellation test, the Apples test, has been proposed. The present study aims at comparing the accuracy of these two tests in detecting hemispatial neglect, on a sample of 56 right hemisphere stroke patients with a diagnosis of USN.

Comparison of infrapubic vs penoscrotal approaches for 3-piece inflatable penile prosthesis placement. do we have a winner

Background: The 3-piece inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) is the gold standard treatment for male erectile dysfunction when other less invasive approaches are contra-indicated or unacceptable for the patient. There are currently 2 surgical approaches for IPP implantation: the penoscrotal (PS) and the infrapubic (IP) incision.
Aim: To assess the most recent evidence on the impact of surgical approach for 3-piece IPP implantation in patients with erectile dysfunction.

The italian dementia with Lewy bodies study group (DLB-SINdem): toward a standardization of clinical procedures and multicenter cohort studies design

Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) causes elevated outlays for the National Health Systems due to high institutionalization rate and patients' reduced quality of life and high mortality. Furthermore, DLB is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's disease. These data motivate harmonized multicenter longitudinal cohort studies to improve clinical management and therapy monitoring.
