Introduction: Statins remain among the most frequently prescribed drugs and constitute a cornerstone in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. However, muscle symptoms are often reported from patients on statins. Muscle symptoms are frequently reported as adverse events associated with statin therapy. Areas covered: In the present narrative review, statin-associated muscle pain is discussed. It elucidates potential mechanisms and possible targets for management.
Radiotherapy is frequently associated with a great number of collateral effects, which can affect the skin and its appendages. In addition to more common side effects, like radiodermatitis, other cutaneous conditions are less known and often they are underdiagnosed. Among these, isoradiotopic response is one of the rare radiotherapy-associated phenomena. This term refers to the appearance of a secondary dermatosis in a previously irradiated district. The term was used for the first time by Shurman et al.
Background: Somatostatin analogs (SSAs) are the mainstay of neuroendocrine tumor (NET) treatment. Biliary stone disease is reported as a common side effect of SSAs, with a frequency ranging from 10% to 63%. Studies on SSA-treated patients for acromegaly report an increased incidence of biliary stone disease compared with the general population, whereas data on patients with NETs are few. Guidelines are based on weak evidence, thus resulting in conflicting recommendations.
