The present study aimed at investigating whether the effects of intergroup contact on support for discriminatory behaviours against immigrants was mediated by perceived threat from immigrants and positive beliefs toward immigrants. Using data from the Italian national survey on “Discrimination by Gender, Sexual Orientation and Ethnic Origin,” which followed a multi-stage stratified cluster sampling procedure, a representative sample of 5509 Italian residents (53.4% women), aged 18 to 74 years, participated.

Results are presented abut a professional development workshop based on the ABN Method for learning mathematics (N = 27), conducted in Talca, Chile, for Pre-K and Primary in-service teachers (children from 4 to 7 years of age in charge). The workshop is aimed at nursery school teachers and first grade teachers. The ABN Method is based on the significant learning of the decimal number system and on the complete domain of operations and their properties, which are learned and assimilated at the same time by children from the early stages of teaching.

In this paper we aim to disentangle the effects on in-group favoritism driven by beliefs from those stemming from group identity, with the final goal of testing the relative power of three potential explanations of this bias: The Beliefs Driven Explanation (BDE), the Group Identity Explanation (GIE) and the Belief-mediated Group Identity Explanation (BGE). The BDE suggests that in-group favoritism is only driven by the desire not to let others’ expectations down. The GIE claims that people have a preference, per se, for members of their group.
