One-week vaginal brachytherapy schedule as exclusive adjuvant post-operative treatment in intermediate- and high-intermediate-risk endometrial cancer patients

Purpose: The aim of the study was to report survival outcomes and toxicities incidence by using one-week vaginal brachytherapy (VBT) schedule in intermediate- and high-intermediate-risk endometrial cancer patients.Material and methods: One hundred and eight patients were treated with exclusive high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy short schedule (7 Gy/fraction/every other day/1 week).

Purpose: Increased complexity of interventional radiotherapy (brachytherapy – BT) treatment planning and quality control procedures has led to the need of a specific training. However, the details of the features of BT learning objectives and their distribution in the training paths of the Italian Radiation Oncology Schools are not known. Purpose: Brachytherapy (BT, interventional radiotherapy – IRT) is a kind of radiation therapy, in which the radioactive source is placed nearby or even inside the cancer itself. Even though this kind of radiation therapy appears effective and valuable, BT has been facing a slow but progressive decline over the past decades in Europe, particularly in Italy.

In the contest of COVID-19 rapid spread in Italy, the Italian Government in March 2020 released an official recommendation statement indicating [1]. Regarding oncological patients, the statement indicates to regional health authorities to identify and implement as quickly as possible the arrangements necessary to ensure oncological treatments, in order not to influence disease prognosis. The Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology (AIRO) released an orientation paper in order to assure homogeneous working procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency [2].
