Breast cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed malignancies during pregnancy. Here, we review the management of women with breast cancer during pregnancy (BCP), focusing on biology, diagnosis and staging, local and systemic treatments, obstetric care and long-term follow-up of children with prenatal exposure to anticancer treatments.
Abstract
Background: Oxidative stress is responsible for some alterations in the chemical structure and, consequently, in
the function of proteins, lipids, and DNA. Recent studies have linked oxidative stress to cancers, particularly thyroid
cancer, but the mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we further characterize the role of oxidative stress in thyroid cancer
by analyzing the expression of two selenium antioxidant molecules, glutathione peroxidase (GPx1) and thioredoxin
reductase (TrxR1) in thyroid cancer cells.
Aim: This analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of nivolumab, an immune checkpoint inhibitor, in elderly patients with stage IIIB or IV squamous non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) enrolled in the expanded access programme (EAP) in Italy. Methods: Nivolumab was available on physician request. Safety data included adverse events (AEs). Efficacy data included investigator-assessed tumour response, progression date and survival information. Results were analysed for patients aged

In this study, we investigated the role of the Wnt/b-catenin signaling pathway in antitumor immune responses. We report that the concentration of secreted Wnt3a was significantly higher in conditioned medium from tumor or nontumor tissues obtained from all hepatocellular carcinoma or colorectal cancer patients tested, than in serum of healthy donors or patients. In addition, both Wnt3a and b-catenin were overexpressed by tumor-infiltrating and nontumor-infiltrating CD4þ or CD8þ T cells.
Background: High-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) intratumoural vasculature evolution remains unknown. The study investigated changes in tumour microvessel density (MVD) in a large cohort of paired primary and recurrent HGSOC tissue samples and its impact on patients’ clinico-pathological outcome. Methods: A total of 222 primary (pOC) and recurrent (rOC) intra-patient paired HGSOC were assessed for immunohistochemical expression of angiogenesis-associated biomarkers (CD31, to evaluate MVD, and VEGF-A).
To investigate local control and radiation-induced brain necrosis in patients with melanoma brain metastases who received complete resection plus fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery (fSRS, 3 × 9 Gy) or fSRS alone. Factors associated with the clinical outcomes and the development of brain necrosis have been assessed. One hundred and twenty consecutive patients with 137 melanoma brain metastases who received surgery plus fSRS (S + fSRS) or fSRS alone were analyzed. All lesions evaluated in the study were treated with a dose of 27 Gy given in 3 fractions over three consecutive days.
urs in the elderly population, sometimes in an
advanced stage, when intensive treatments are needed.
Radiotherapy can achieve high response rates. We evaluated
efficacy and tolerability of hypofractionated radiotherapy in
a population of very elderly patients with locally advanced
epithelial skin cancer. Patients and Methods: Two different
hypofractionated schedules were administered (21 patients):
6 Gy in 10 bi-weekly fractions (13 lesions) and 5 Gy in 12
bi-weekly fractions (13 lesions). Median age at treatment was
