Essential oil extraction, chemical analysis and anti-candida activity of calamintha nepeta (L.) Savi subsp. glandulosa (Req.) ball-new approaches

A comprehensive study on essential oils (EOs) extracted from different Calamintha nepeta
(L.) Savi subsp. glandulosa (Req.) Ball (CG) samples from Tarquinia (Italy) is reported. In this study,
the 24-hour steam distillation procedure for EO preparation, in terms of different harvesting and
extraction times, was applied. The GC/MS analysis showed that CG essential oils from Tarquinia
(TEOCG) belong to pulegone-rich chemotype. The analysis of 44 samples revealed that along

Short-Term Probiotic Administration Increases Fecal-Anti Candida Activity in Healthy Subjects

Background: Candida albicans' ability to evade host immune responses represents a serious threat for vulnerable patients. Objectives: To investigate if (1) feces from healthy subjects exert anti-Candida activity; (2) fecal anti-Candida activity is modified by probiotic administration and (3) different probiotic differently modulate anti-Candida activity. Patients and methods: Feces from healthy donors were analyzed before and after seven days of dietary supplementation with two different probiotic formulations (VSL#3((R)); Vivomixx((R))).

Candida blood stream infections observed between 2011 and 2016 in a large Italian University Hospital: A time-based retrospective analysis on epidemiology, biofilm production, antifungal agents consumption and drug-susceptibility

Candida bloodstream infection (BSI) represents a growing infective problem frequently associated to biofilm production due to the utilization of intravascular devices. Candida species distribution (n = 612 strains), their biofilm production and hospital antifungal drug consumption were evaluated in different wards of a tertiary care academic hospital in Italy during the years 2011–2016. In the considered time window, an increasing number of Candida BSI (p = 0.005) and of biofilm producing strains were observed (p<0.0001). Although C.
