Cannabinoids consistently produced antinociceptive effects in preclinical models. However, in clinical practice, evidence of their analgesic efficacy is still lacking. The possible risk of side effects and diversion should be considered. High-quality data are critically needed to define the real role of cannabis-related medications in chronic pain management

The detection of cannabinoids in veterinary feeds by microNIR/chemometrics: A new analytical platform

In this work, the capabilities of a novel miniaturized and portable microNIR spectrometer were investigated in order to propose a practical and intelligible test allowing the rapid and easy screening of cannabinoids in veterinary feeds. In order to develop a predictive model that could identify and simultaneously quantify the residual amounts of cannabinoids, specimens from popular veterinary feeds were considered and spiked with increasing amounts of cannabidiol (CBD), Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and cannabigerol (CBG).

Anandamide modulation of circadian- and stress-dependent effects on rat short-term memory

The endocannabinoid system plays a key role in the control of emotional responses to environmental challenges. CB1 receptors are highly expressed within cortico-limbic brain areas, where they modulate stress effects on memory processes. Glucocorticoid and endocannabinoid release is influenced by circadian rhythm. Here, we investigated how different stress intensities immediately after encoding influence rat short-term memory in an object recognition task, whether the effects depend on circadian rhythm and if exogenous augmentation of anandamide levels could restore any observed impairment.

Cannabidiol restores intestinal barrier dysfunction and inhibits the apoptotic process induced by Clostridium difficile toxin A in Caco-2 cells

Background: Clostridium difficile toxin A is responsible for colonic damage observed in infected patients. Drugs able to restore Clostridium difficile toxin A-induced toxicity have the potential to improve the recovery of infected patients. Cannabidiol is a non-psychotropic component of Cannabis sativa, which has been demonstrated to protect enterocytes against chemical and/or inflammatory damage and to restore intestinal mucosa integrity.

Isolation of a High-Affinity Cannabinoid for the Human CB1 Receptor from a Medicinal Cannabis sativa Variety: Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabutol, the Butyl Homologue of Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol

The butyl homologues of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, Δ9-tetrahydrocannabutol (Δ9-THCB), and cannabidiol, cannabidibutol (CBDB), were isolated from a medicinal Cannabis sativa variety (FM2) inflorescence. Appropriate spectroscopic and spectrometric characterization, including NMR, UV, IR, ECD, and HRMS, was carried out on both cannabinoids. The chemical structures and absolute configurations of the isolated cannabinoids were confirmed by comparison with the spectroscopic data of the respective compounds obtained by stereoselective synthesis.
