Recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after direct acting antiviral treatment for hepatitis C virus infection. Literature review and risk analysis

Although studies suggest decreased incident hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after treatment with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, data are conflicting regarding risk and aggressiveness of recurrence in patients who have a history of treated HCC. This review analyses data available in literature in order to elucidate the impact of DAAs on the risk of HCC recurrence after successful treatment of the tumor. Overall 24 papers were identified.

Performance of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in assessing thyroid nodules: a systematic review and meta-analysis using histological standard of reference

Background: The present study was undertaken to systematically review the literature on the reliability of using contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to assess thyroid nodules. To avoid the potential bias in studies using a cytological standard of reference, here we aimed to meta-analyze data from studies adopting histological diagnosis as the gold standard. Methods: A comprehensive literature exploration of PubMed and Scopus was conducted. The search was updated until June 2018 and references of the retrieved articles screened.

Safety of lymphadenectomy during video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy. Analysis from a national database

OBJECTIVES The Italian VATS Group database was accessed to evaluate whether preoperative and intraoperative factors may affect the safety of lymphadenectomy (LA) during video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy. METHODS All video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy procedures performed between 1 January 2014 and 30 March 2017 for non-small-cell lung cancer with cN0 or cN1 disease were identified in the database.

Patient age is an independent risk factor of relapse of differentiated thyroid carcinoma and Improves the performance of the American Thyroid Association Stratification System

Background: The 2015 American Thyroid Association (ATA) guidelines proposed a three-category system for estimating the risk of recurrence of differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC). This system includes several perioperative features, but not age at diagnosis. However, age has traditionally been recognized as a critical factor in the survival of DTC patients, and the eighth edition of TNM stated that patients older than 55 years were at higher risk of death. In this study, we raised the question of whether age at DTC diagnosis impacts on its risk of recurrence.

Adjuvant chemotherapy for large-cell neuroendocrine lung carcinoma. Results from the European Society for Thoracic Surgeons Lung Neuroendocrine Tumours Retrospective Database

BJECTIVES: Large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNC) is a rare tumour characterized by aggressive biological behaviour and poor prognosis. Due to its rarity and the lack of randomized clinical trials, the best treatment is still under debate. Some recent reports indicate that adjuvant chemotherapy (CT) may have a beneficial effect on survival.

Mono-and Bi-weekly hypofractionated radiation therapy for the treatment of epithelial skin cancer in very elderly patients

urs in the elderly population, sometimes in an
advanced stage, when intensive treatments are needed.
Radiotherapy can achieve high response rates. We evaluated
efficacy and tolerability of hypofractionated radiotherapy in
a population of very elderly patients with locally advanced
epithelial skin cancer. Patients and Methods: Two different
hypofractionated schedules were administered (21 patients):
6 Gy in 10 bi-weekly fractions (13 lesions) and 5 Gy in 12
bi-weekly fractions (13 lesions). Median age at treatment was

Re-irradiation in lung disease by SBRT. A retrospective, single institutional study

Background: The loco regional relapse is frequent in the lung disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of re-irradiation by SBRT in terms of Local Control (LC) and toxicities. Methods: From April 2011 to December 2016, twenty-two patients received a re-irradiation by SBRT. Twenty- seven lesions were treated. The medium BED(10) of re-irradiation was 100.6 Gy (range: 48-151.2 Gy) and the medium EQD2(10) was 93.8 Gy (range: 40-126 Gy). In the previous treatment the medium BED(10) was 97.2 Gy (range: 40-120 Gy), the medium EQD2(10) was 81 Gy (range: 32.5-100 Gy).

Left-sided early onset colorectal carcinomas: a sporadic neoplasm with aggressive behavior

BACKGROUND:
Early onset (?50y) colorectal carcinomas (EO-CRCs) are increasing in incidence according to epidemiological data. We investigated clinical-pathological, molecular features and outcomes of 62 left sided EO-CRCs (EOLS-CRCs) and compared them to a group of late onset (?65) LS-CRCs (LOLS-CRCs).
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
Samples were evaluated for pathological features and microsatellite instability (MSI). Overall survival (OS), disease free survival (DFS) and disease specific survival were evaluated in both groups.
RESULTS:
