Modulation of omv production by the lysis module of the dlp12 defective prophage of Escherichia coli k12

Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are nanostructures mostly produced by blebbing of the outer membrane in Gram negative bacteria. They contain biologically active proteins and perform a variety of processes. OMV production is also a typical response to events inducing stress in the bacterial envelope. In these cases, hypervesiculation is regarded as a strategy to avoid the dangerous accumulation of undesired products within the periplasm. Several housekeeping genes influence the biogenesis of OMVs, including those correlated with peptidoglycan and cell wall dynamics.

Cell wall features transferred from common into durum wheat to improve Fusarium Head Blight resistance

Durum wheat is naturally more susceptible to Fusarium graminerum infection in comparison to common wheat. The improvement of durum wheat resistance against F. graminearum is a challenge due to the lack of resistance sources in its gene pool. FHB-resistance factors were introduced in durum wheat by generating recombinant inbred lines (RILs), obtained by crossing the hexaploid resistant accession 02-5B-318 with the susceptible durum wheat cv. Saragolla. In this work we explored the possible contribution of cell wall (CW) in RILs with improved FHB resistance.

Fungal lipids.Biosynthesis and signalling during plant-pathogen interaction

Lipids occur in fungi as major constituents of the membrane systems and minor component in the cell wall; they can store energy in the lipid bodies and, in some cases, they can act as intra-extracellular signals. Fungi contain a various set of lipids, including fatty acids, oxylipins, sphingolipids, phospholipids, glycolipids, and sterols. Current studies in lipids suggest their additional role in cell signalling; for instance, host-pathogen exchange lipid signals at the interface during their interaction.
