The Sanctuary of Castel Petroso. Reflections on architectural representation

His paper is the result of wider research that aims to create a link between the most prestigious architectural complexes in Molise, independently of their function, period of construction and state of preservation, the intention being to catalogue and document them, but also to create tourist itineraries. In this specific case, the complex in question is the sanctuary of the Madonna Addolorata at C astel Petroso, a late 19th century Neo-Gothic design by the engineer Francesco Gualandi.

Cencelle is a little town in Northern Lazio, founded by Pope Leo IV in the mid of IX century and urban center until the mid of XV century. Archaeological excavation have exposing the early medieval episcopal church and its radical restructuring in the XII century. The two churches are in the center of the town and condition the entire urban topography; both have around the respective cemeteries, with numerous tombs.

Public hygiene and funeral rituals during the Risorgimento: mummies and ashes

Starting in 1865, regulations pursuant to public hygiene issued by the Unitary Government provided for administrative and political control of the funerary practice. Specifically, they regulated the management of cemeteries and the burials, increasingly drawing the funeral rituals from the control of the Church and of Catholicism, therefore secularising death for the construction of a new political religion.
