SARS-CoV-2 pandemic impact on pediatric emergency rooms: A multicenter study

From March 9 to May 3, 2020, lockdown was declared in Italy due to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. Our aim was to evaluate how the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and related preventive strategies affected pediatric emergency rooms (ERs) during this period. We performed a retrospective cohort multicenter study, comparing the lockdown period to the corresponding period in 2019. We examined 15 Italian pediatric ERs in terms of visit rates, specific diagnoses (grouped as air communicable diseases and non-air communicable diseases), and triage categories.

The Vatican City State Internal Healthcare System Response to COVID-19 Pandemic: Prevention and Control Strategies

Similar to other countries, also the internal healthcare system of the Vatican City State has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the experience accumulated so far, the ongoing prevention measures, the organizational efforts to avoid discontinuation of healthcare assistance, and the efforts to precociously identify new cases have contributed to minimize the impact of the pandemic on the State and will be of utmost importance in the coming months, along with a widespread vaccination campaign.

Bluetongue outbreaks. Looking for effective control strategies against Culicoides vectors

Several arthropod-borne diseases are now rising with increasing impact and risks for public health, due to environmental changes and resistance to pesticides currently marketed. In addition to community surveillance programs and a careful management of herds, a next-generation of effective products is urgently needed to control the spread of these diseases, with special reference to arboviral ones. Natural product research can afford alternative solutions. Recently, a re-emerging of bluetongue disease is ongoing in Italy.
