Moving object detection in video streams plays a key role in many computer vision applications. In particular, separation between background and foreground items represents a main prerequisite to carry out more complex tasks, such as object classification, vehicle tracking, and person re-identification. Despite the progress made in recent years, a main challenge of moving object detection still regards the management of dynamic aspects, including bootstrapping and illumination changes.

Assessing Atrial Fibrillation Substrates by P Wave Analysis: A Comprehensive Review

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia. Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic rhythm control strategies impact on AF-related symptoms, while leaving largely unaffected the risk of stroke. Moreover, up to 20% of AF patients are asymptomatic during paroxysmal relapses of arrhythmia, thus underlying the need for early markers to identify at-risk patients and prevent cerebrovascular accidents. Indeed, non-invasive assessment of pre-clinical substrate changes that predispose to AF could provide early identification of at-risk patients and allow for tailored care paths.

Are intraoral radiographs reliable in determining peri-implant marginal bone level changes? The correlation between open surgical measurements and peri-apical radiographs

This study was performed to evaluate the reliability of peri-apical
radiographs in determining peri-implant marginal bone level changes. The
STROBE guidelines were followed. Marginal bone levels were measured at the
time of implant insertion using a straight periodontal probe and using peri-apical

Palatal orthodontic miniscrew insertion using a CAD-CAM surgical guide: description of a technique

The aim of this report was to describe a new computer-guided technique for a controlled site preparation and palatal orthodontic miniscrew insertion using a dedicated software. A surgical guide was designed after planning the appropriate insertion sites on three-dimensional images created by the fusion of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and digital dental model images. Pre- and postoperative CBCT images were compared and the angular, coronal, and apical deviations between the planned and the placed miniscrews were calculated.

Recommendations on nuclear and multimodality imaging in IE and CIED infections

In the latest update of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines for the management of infective endocarditis (IE), imaging is positioned at the centre of the diagnostic work-up so that an early and accurate diagnosis can be reached. Besides echocardiography, contrast-enhanced CT (ce-CT), radiolabelled leucocyte (white blood cell, WBC) SPECT/CT and [18F]FDG PET/CT are included as diagnostic tools in the diagnostic flow chart for IE.

Introduction: Radiolabelled autologous white blood cells (WBC) scintigraphy is being standardized all over the world to ensure high quality, specificity and reproducibility. Similarly, in many European countries radiolabelled anti-granulocyte antibodies (anti-G-mAb) are used instead of WBC with high diagnostic accuracy. Can dual-energy computed tomography improve visualization of hypoenhancing liver lesions in portal venous phase? Assessment of advanced image-based virtual monoenergetic images

Purpose The purpose was to assess image quality of portal-venous phase dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) for liver lesions. Methods We performed 120-kVp-equivalent linear-blended (LB) and monoenergetic reconstructions from 40 to 190 keV by standard (VMI) and advanced virtual monoenergetic (VMI+) methods. Diagnostic performance, and quantitative and qualitative image analyses were assessed and compared. Results Liver contrast to noise ratio peaked at 40 keV_VMI+, while image quality and reader preference peaked at 50 keV_VMI+.

Fred: A GPU-accelerated fast-Monte Carlo code for rapid treatment plan recalculation in ion beam therapy

Ion beam therapy is a rapidly growing technique for tumor radiation therapy. Ions allow for a high dose deposition in the tumor region, while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue. For this reason, the highest possible accuracy in the calculation of dose and its spatial distribution is required in treatment planning. On one hand, commonly used treatment planning software solutions adopt a simplified beam–body interaction model by remapping pre-calculated dose distributions into a 3D water-equivalent representation of the patient morphology.

In particular, continuous task studies, such as movie watching, speak to alterations in coupling among cortical regions and enhanced fluctuations in FC compared to the resting-state.
