Cultural Heritage

Hybrid knowledge devices for Built Cultural Heritage

The contribution briefly illustrates the HeritageBot project, currently in the prototype phase, which concerns the construction of a drone structure with robotic legs. The system is equipped with high dexterity locomotion mobility and the possibility of small flights. Its platform, structured in modular mode, allows to host various sensors, both commercial and specially developed, in order to intervene in the processes of knowledge and detection of Cultural Heritage, in critical situations and conditions and particularly difficult accessibility.

The Participatory Graphics of Cultural Heritage. New Methods of Analysis, Knowledge and Valorisation

The paper describes a project for the understanding of Cultural Heritage,
through experimental procedures that can provide scientifically measurable
results. The project, called HeGo (HeritageGo), provides for the creation of a
model of social and participatory interaction applied to surveys in archaeological,
architectural and urban contexts. The procedure is structured principally around
the voluntary participation of various “players/users” (tourists, students, ordinary

BIM for built cultural heritage: the case of the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Florence.

The 3D virtual modeling of any artifact involves the organized composition of digital elements. This process is common to any 3D modeling workflow but, when applied to BIM systems, shows a good correspondence in the construction processes between the virtual and the real world. In fact, any building can be considered as a coordinated set of simple technological elements, linked together by design logics and construction techniques that are quite predictable and controllable.

The ASArt-DATA project. Current perspectives on central Saharan rock art

Rock art is one of the most significant aspects of Saharan cultural heritage. The recent critical political developments determined the inaccessibility of many sites, raising the risk of destruction of the artworks, already significantly endangered by natural and anthropic threats. It is urgent to propose concrete actions to improve the understanding of this heritage and raise awareness of its extraordinary value, as a testimony of the past, as well as a resource for the future.

Understanding intangible aspects of cultural heritage: The role of active imagination

Despite an undoubted awareness of the intangible aspects of culture in heritage studies, scholars continue to base their understanding of intangible heritage according to rationalist theories of perception, which accept only a single mode of perception—that which is bound to the empirical, sensorial and terrestrial world.

Landscape planning. Issues and tools

The attention towards the concepts of landscape, environment and territory and their mutual interrelationships, have engaged, since the early years of the twentieth century, the political class, the cultural and disciplinary world in the definition of new approaches to landscape protection and planning. The normative dispositions that followed over more than a century of debates reflect the evolution of the theoretical-cultural thought developed around the themes of definition, representation, evaluation and landscape planning.
