Point of view of the Italians pediatric scientific societies about the pediatric care during the COVID-19 lockdown: What has changed and future prospects for restarting

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is currently rare in children and they seem to have a milder disease course and better prognosis than adults. However, SARS-Cov-2 pandemic has indirectly caused problems in pediatric medical assistance. In view of this we wanted to draw a picture of what happened during health emergency and analyze future prospects for restarting.

Due to the advent of novel technologies and digital opportunities allowing to simplify user lives, healthcare is increasingly evolving towards digitalization. This represent a great opportunity on one side but it also exposes healthcare organizations to multiple threats (both digital and not) that may lead an attacker to compromise the security of medial processes and potentially patients' safety. Similar to other countries, also the internal healthcare system of the Vatican City State has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the experience accumulated so far, the ongoing prevention measures, the organizational efforts to avoid discontinuation of healthcare assistance, and the efforts to precociously identify new cases have contributed to minimize the impact of the pandemic on the State and will be of utmost importance in the coming months, along with a widespread vaccination campaign.
