Active distribution grids and EV charging stations: a centralized approach for their integration

The paper proposes real case of application of a smart integration of Electrical Vehicles (EVs) charging stations with Dispersed Generation (DG) that can guarantee the maximum exploitation of the system and its sustainability. The case study is a real distribution grid of e-distribuzione, the main Italian Distribution System Operator (DSO). Different kinds of EVs charging systems and spread scenarios are hypothesized and different Optimal Power Flow (OPF) models, with different objective function, reflecting different needs of DSO, have been implemented and tested.

Faults evaluation of MV underground cable joints

During the summer periods of the last few years there have been unexpected increased numbers of failures of underground cable joints of the medium voltage (MV) network both of e-distribuzione and of other Italian electrical distributors. As a result of this, the University of Roma 'La Sapienza' and e-distribuzione started a cooperation with the aim to investigate on causes of such failures and for finding the most appropriate countermeasures in terms of improvement of technologies, operative procedures and operation.

New dispatching paradigm in power systems including EV charging stations and dispersed generation: A real test case

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are becoming one of the main answers to the decarbonization of the transport sector and Renewable Energy Sources (RES) to the decarbonization of the electricity production sector. Nevertheless, their impact on the electric grids cannot be neglected. New paradigms for the management of the grids where they are connected, which are typically distribution grids in Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV), are necessary. A reform of dispatching rules, including the management of distribution grids and the resources there connected, is in progress in Europe.

Emulatore di Rete

Due to the growing use of additional and regenerative energy systems such as solar, wind and biomass energy plants, the observance of strict grid feeding specifications is becoming more and more important for the manufacturers. With the help of the Grid Emulator, the various required power conditions as well as failures and interferences in the power system can be exactly generated.
