Long run analysis of crude oil portfolios

This paper deals with the analysis of the long-run behavior of a set of mispricing portfolios generated by three crude oils, where one of the oils is the reference commodity and it is compared to a combination of the other two ones. To this aim, the long-term parameter related to the mispricing portfolio are estimated on empirical data. We pay particular attention to the cases of mispricing portfolios either of stationary type or following a Brownian motion: the former situation is associated to replication portfolios of a reference commodity; the latter one allows to implement forecasts.

Radiation protection considerations on radon and building materials radioactivity in Near Zero Energy Buildings

Recent updates of the E.U. Basic Safety Standards, stated in the Council Directive 2013/59/EURATOM, are focusing on risks related to radon gas concentration inside dwellings and working places, as well as radioactivity of building materials. In particular, the new E.U. Basic Safety Standards are based on last recommendations from the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), and from the World Health Organization (WHO), which consider that radon issues, and external irradiation from building material, as topic aspects to population’s health.

Natural convection from a pair of differentially-heated horizontal cylinders aligned side by side in a nanofluid-filled square enclosure

A two-phase model based on the double-diffusive approach is used to perform a numerical study on natural convection from a pair of differentially-heated horizontal cylinders set side by side in a nanofluid-filled adiabatic square enclosure. The study is conducted under the assumption that Brownian diffusion and thermophoresis are the only slip mechanisms by which the solid phase can develop a significant relative velocity with respect to the liquid phase.

Hydrophilic metal nanoparticles functionalized by 2-Diethylaminoethanethiol: a close look at the metal-ligand interaction and interface chemical structure

Hydrophilic gold and silver nanoparticles stabilized with 2-diethylaminoethanethiol hydrochloride (DEA) have been prepared and characterized. AuNPs-DEA and AgNPs-DEA with mean diameter below 10 nm have been characterized by means of dynamic light scattering and field-emission scanning electron microscopy techniques.

A systematic study of harnessing low-temperature geothermal energy from oil and gas reservoirs

Mature hydrocarbon fields co-produce significant volumes of water. As the produced water increases over the life of the field, the project's operating costs increase (due to greater water management expenditure), while the oil revenues decrease. Typically, these waste streams of water have temperatures of 65–150 °C. The combination of moderate temperatures and large water volumes may be suitable for electricity generation and/or district heating.

Stimuli-responsive tannin–feIII hybrid microcapsules demonstrated by the active release of an anti-tuberculosis agent

A simple and facile strategy for the creation of ferric tannin microcapsules around a liquid, non-sacrificial core is described. The assembly of the capsules occurs rapidly once ferric tannin complexes are subjected to ultrasonic treatment. The driving forces for the rapid capsule assembly reside in the strategy of adding ferric ions into the initial emulsion, which promotes shell formation and stability through well-known complexation effects.
