Phytochemical characteristics of Galeopsis ladanum subsp. angustifolia (Ehrh. ex Hoffm.) Gaudin collected in Abruzzo region (Central Italy) with chemotaxonomic and ethnopharmacological implications

In this work, a phytochemical analysis on the total aerial parts of Galeopsis ladanum subsp. angustifolia (Ehrh. ex Hoffm.) Gaudin collected in Abruzzo region (Central Italy) has been reported. Nine compounds were identified belonging to five different classes of natural compounds. Additional chemotaxonomic markers were recognized than our previous study, as well. Their presence is perfectly in accordance with the current botanical classification of the species and shows the possibility of a pronounced metabolic variability.

Phytochemical analysis of the ethanolic extract of Agathis robusta (C. Moore ex F. Muell.) F.M. Bailey

This work reports the phytochemical analysis of the ethanolic extract obtained from the leaves of Agathis robusta (C. Moore ex F. Muell.) F.M.Bailey. The methodology utilised during this study comprised classical chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. Six compounds were identified: agathisflavone (1), 7?-O-methyl-agathisflavone (2), cupressuflavone (3), rutin (4), shikimic acid (5) and (2S)-1,2-Di-O- [(9Z,12Z,15Z)-octadeca-9,12,15-trienoyl]-3-O-?-d-galactopyranosyl glycerol (6).

Composition of the essentialoOil of coristospermum cuneifolium and antimicrobial activity evaluation

For the first time, the chemical composition and antimicrobial evaluation of Coristospermum cuneifolium (previously named Ligusticum lucidum subsp. cuneifolium) essential oil obtained from the aerial parts are reported in this work. Approximately 85 % of the total constituents were identified by GC-MS analysis, evidencing the presence of 12 chemical components which belong to several classes of natural compounds. Most of them are reported for the first time in the Ligusticum genus (s.l.) and in the Apiaceae family.

Qualitative and semi-quantitative phytochemical analysis on the seeds of a new Nigella sativa L. population exemplar from Iran

In this work, the first phytochemical analysis on the seeds of Nigella sativa L. collected from a new population in Iran is reported. The study was carried out by means of classical column chromatography and spectroscopic techniques and evidenced the presence of twenty-six compound divided into six different classes of natural compounds. In particular, compounds (3–4) have been reported in the family for the first time. In addition to this, the first NMR semi-quantitative analysis on their most polar metabolites content was reported.

Phytochemical profile of Euphorbia peplus L. collected in Central Italy and NMR semi-quantitative analysis of the diterpenoid fraction

In this work, the phytochemical profile of the ethanolic extract of Euphorbia peplus L. collected in CentralItaly, was reported. This specimen had never been studied before and the analysis was accomplished bymeans of Column Chromatography for the separation procedure and by means of NMR Spectroscopy andMass Spectrometry for the identification step. In particular, fourteen compounds were evidenced belong-ing to five different classes of natural compounds i.e.

Pedicularis L. Genus. Systematics, botany, phytochemistry, chemotaxonomy, ethnopharmacology, and other

In this review, the relevance of the plant species belonging to the Pedicularis L. genus has been considered from different points of view. Particular emphasis was given to phytochemistry and ethnopharmacology, since several classes of natural compounds have been reported within this genus and many of its species are well known to be employed in the traditional medicines of many Asian countries. Some important conclusions on the chemotaxonomic and chemosystematic aspects of the genus have also been provided for the first time.

Phytochemistry, chemotaxonomy, and biological activities of the Araucariaceae family. A Review

In this review article, the phytochemistry of the species belonging to the Araucariaceae family is explored. Among these, in particular, it is given a wide overview on the phytochemical profile of Wollemia genus, for the first time. In addition to this, the ethnopharmacology and the general biological activities associated to the Araucariaceae species are singularly described. Lastly, the chemotaxonomy at the genus and family levels is described and detailed.

Essential oil composition and total metabolite content of a chemotype of Ajuga reptans L. (Lamiaceae) collected in Central Italy

In this work, an interesting application of phytochemistry for ethnopharmacological purposes was reported. In particular, the total phytochemical analysis of a single sample of Ajuga reptans L. (Lamiaceae) collected in Central Italy was carried out in order to provide a rationale for the use of this plant in folk medicine. This analysis was conducted on the volatile oil fraction by gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) and on the polar one by means of classical column chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance and MS.

HPLC and NMR analysis of the phenyl-ethanoid glycosides pattern of Verbascum thapsus L. cultivated in the Etnean area

In this work the HPLC and NMR analysis of the phenyl-ethanoid glycosides (PhGs) pattern of a cultivated exemplar of Verbascum thapsus L. (Scrophulariaceae) from the Etnean area (Sicily, Italy) was performed in order to verify their possible presence. Wild V. thapsus is well-known in ethnopharmacology due to the several beneficial effects that it is able to exert and which are primarily due to these compounds. So, it’s extremely important that also cultivated exemplars of this species biosynthesize them in order to maintain their pharmacological properties.
