JC virus-DNA detection is associated with CD8 fffector accumulation in peripheral blood of patients with multiple sclerosis under natalizumab treatment, independently from JC virus serostatus

Although natalizumab (anti-α4 integrin) represents an effective therapy for relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), it is associated with an increased risk of developing progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), caused by the polyomavirus JC (JCV). The aim of this study was to explore natalizumab-induced phenotypic changes in peripheral blood T-lymphocytes and their relationship with JCV reactivation. Forty-four patients affected by RRMS were enrolled.

Gestalt, campo (d’azione) e totalità nella lingua

The notion of field has been very productive in twentieth-century language theory in its various forms and varieties: it is an important epistemological notion, originally developed in physics, in the psychology of perception and in Gestalt psychology, and later introduced in language theories. In this transition, an important step was the notion of field elaborated by Bühler, in his studies on perception and Gestalt, as well as on animal languages, along the lines of the ones also carried out by Köhler.

Molecular detection of EMT markers in circulating tumor cells from metastatic non-small cell lung cancer patients. Potential role in clinical practice

Background. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common cause of cancer-related mortality; nevertheless, there are few data regarding detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in NSCLC, compared to other kinds of cancers in which their prognostic roles have already been defined. This difference is likely due to detection methods based on the epithelial marker expression which ignore CTCs undergoing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (CTCsEMT). Methods.

Cytological diagnostic features of late breast implant seromas. From reactive to anaplastic large cell lymphoma

Late breast implant seroma may be the presentation of a breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BI-ALCL), which claims for a prompt recognition. However, BI-ALCL diagnosis on fine-needle aspiration (FNA) might be challenging for pathologists lacking experience with peri-implant breast effusions. Sixty-seven late breast implant seromas collected by FNA from 50 patients were evaluated by Papanicolaou smear stain and immunocytochemistry on cell blocks. A diagnostic algorithm based on the cellular composition, cell morphology and percentage of CD30+ cells was developed.

Tetrahydroquinolinone derivatives as potent P-glycoprotein inhibitors: design, synthesis, biological evaluation and molecular docking analysis

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is a transmembrane efflux pump that has been associated with ineffective cancer chemotherapy and multidrug resistance (MDR). Chemical inhibitors of P-gp could have potential cancer therapeutic applications by preventing or reversing MDR. To exploit this, we designed twenty-five tetrahydroquinolinone analogs bearing pyridyl methyl carboxylate at C3 and different substituents at C4 as MDR reversal agents.
