Risk of cardiac and sudden death with and without revascularisation of a coronary chronic total occlusion

Objective The aim of this study is to evaluate the long-Term risk of cardiac death and sudden cardiac death (SCD) and/or sustained ventricular arrhythmias (SVAs) in patients with coronary chronic total occlusions (CTO) revascularised versus those with CTO not revascularised by percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods From a cohort of 1357 CTO-PCI patients, 1162 patients who underwent CTO PCI attempt were included in this long-Term analysis: 837 patients were revascularised by PCI (CTO-R group) and 325 were not revascularised (CTO-NR group).

Comparative effectiveness of multi-fraction stereotactic radiosurgery for surgically resected or intact large brain metastases from non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC)

Purpose: to investigate clinical outcomes in patients with large brain metastases from non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received surgical resection and postoperative stereotactic radiosurgery or SRS alone. Patients and Methods: Two hundred and twenty-two patients with 241 large brain metastases (2–4 cm in size) who received surgery and multi-fraction SRS (mfSRS) to the resection cavity or mfSRS alone were analyzed. For all lesions the delivered dose was 3 x 9 Gy over three consecutive days. Primary endpoint of the study was local control (LC).

Background: Cardiometabolic disorders may worsen Covid-19 outcomes. We investigated features and Covid-19 outcomes for patients with or without diabetes, and with or without cardiometabolic multimorbidity. Methods: We collected and compared data retrospectively from patients hospitalized for Covid-19 with and without diabetes, and with and without cardiometabolic multimorbidity (defined as ≥ two of three risk factors of diabetes, hypertension or dyslipidaemia).

The combined use of clear aligners and computer-guided piezocision: a case report with a 2-year follow-up

AIM:

An orthodontic treatment is described that combines the use of clear aligners and computer-guided piezocision to overcome the drawbacks of traditional corticotomy in accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. The relapse at the 2-year follow-up was also evaluated.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:

Importance: Observational studies have suggested that the use of radial artery grafts for coronary artery bypass grafting may improve clinical outcomes compared with the use of saphenous vein grafts, but this has not been confirmed in randomized trials. Objective: To compare clinical outcomes between patients receiving radial artery vs saphenous vein grafts for coronary artery bypass grafting after long-term follow-up.

Clinical outcomes in adult athletes with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: A 7-year follow-up study

Objective Current guidelines recommend precautionary disqualification from competitive sports in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). We assessed the incidence of cardiovascular events in a cohort of patients with HCM engaged in long-term exercise programmes and competitive sport. Methods We reviewed data on 88 consecutive athletes diagnosed with HCM, from 1997 to 2017; 92 male, 98 Caucasian, median age 31 (IQR: 19-44) years. All participated in regular exercise programmes and competitive sport at study entry. We performed follow-up evaluation after 7±5 (1-21) years.

Survival after lung transplant for cystic fibrosis in italy. A single center experience with 20 years of follow-up

Objectives: Lung transplantation is currently the only treatment for end-stage respiratory failure in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). In this study we retrospectively analyzed our experience since the start of the transplantation program in 1996 with focus on survival analysis. Methods: All patients with CF who underwent lung transplant at our center were included (1996–2016). Survival analysis after lung transplant was performed using the Kaplan-Meier estimate, comparing by sex and by 4 eras (1996–2000, 2001–2005, 2006–2010, and 2011–2016).

Does cervical range of motion affect the outcomes of canalith repositioning procedures for posterior canal benign positional paroxysmal vertigo?

Purpose: Canalith repositioning procedure (CRP) for posterior canal benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV), also known as Epley maneuver, is a common procedure for the treatment of BPPV. This maneuver entails flexion, extension and rotation of the patient's neck. This study aims to investigate the impact of cervical range of motion (C-ROM) on CRP efficacy. Materials and methods: The study included 47 patients with posterior canal BPPV treated by CRP. The procedure was considered successful if vertigo and nystagmus disappeared at the post-treatment evaluation.

Safety of lymphadenectomy during video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy. Analysis from a national database

OBJECTIVES The Italian VATS Group database was accessed to evaluate whether preoperative and intraoperative factors may affect the safety of lymphadenectomy (LA) during video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy. METHODS All video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy procedures performed between 1 January 2014 and 30 March 2017 for non-small-cell lung cancer with cN0 or cN1 disease were identified in the database.
