The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of GPR for the structural detailing of buried roman baths structures. As a result, GPR allowed to confirm the literature-based information, i.e. to precisely locate the tanks of the thermal area. Their presence was already known through previous excavation then buried and no more visible.

Advanced imaging for down-looking contactless GPR systems

This paper investigates the performance of an advanced imaging procedure for ground penetrating radar (GPR) operating in contactless configuration, i.e., when data are collected at variable distances from the air-soil interface. A data processing procedure is presented, based on an advanced implementation of a microwave tomographic approach. This improved version, recently proposed by the authors, is able of accounting for the near-field distribution generated by a directional transmitting antenna.

GPR/GPS/IMU system as buried objects locator

In the last years, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology has been extensively used in several different fields, including archaeology and cultural-heritage diagnostics. The integration of GPR with other positioning devices, such as a Global Positioning System (GPS) and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), can significantly improve the accuracy of buried-object location, by means of an efficient control of GPR route and attitude.

Railway freight transport and logistics: Methods for relief, algorithms for verification and proposals for the adjustment of tunnel inner surfaces

In Europe, the attention to efficiency and safety of international railway freight transport has grown in recent years and this has drawn attention to the importance of verifying the clearance between vehicle and lining, mostly when different and variable rolling stock types are expected. This work consists of defining an innovative methodology, with the objective of surveying the tunnel structures, verifying the clearance conditions, and designing a retrofitting work if necessary.
