The research presented in this volume examines Guizhou ethnic minority settlements located in the eastern part of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, in the southwest of China.
The specificity and the relevance of these settlements, therefore, refers to a combination of anthropological, architectural, environmental issues.
This text intends to introduce some issues related to the notion of urban fringe belt applied to a geographical area located in the Pearl River Delta, in the territory where, over the last twenty years, the merger of two cities, Guangzhou1 (14 million inhabitants) and Foshan (7 million inhabitants), has given rise to a new urban organism considered the new core of the Zhujiang Delta, the Guangzhou-Foshan Metropolitan Area.
