Hashimoto’s thyroiditis

Gut microbiota and Hashimoto's thyroiditis

About two third of the human microbial commensal community, namely the gut microbiota, is hosted by the gastrointestinal tract which represents the largest interface of the organism to the external environment. This microbial community co-evolved in a symbiotic relationship with the human beings. Growing evidence support the notion that the microbiota plays a significant role in maintaining nutritional, metabolic and immunologic homeostasis in the host.

Tiroidite di Hashimoto in associazione a carcinoma della tiroide

Hashimoto thyroiditis associated with thyroid carcinoma — A case report. — The incidence reported in literature of Thyroid carcinoma associated with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis varies widely from 0.5% to 32%. The presence of a solitary cold nodale, unresponsive to suppressive therapy, in Hashimoto’s thyroiditis needs to be accurately studied. The cytologic diagnosis of the coexistence of both diseases presents certain problems (false-negative rate of FNA is 10%).
