This study describes the process of developing and validating the Sexual Prejudice in Sport Scale (SPSS), which is a multidimensional instrument developed to assess attitudes toward lesbians and gay men (LG) in sports. The authors conducted two studies: first, to establish the factor structure of the SPSS on 297 heterosexual athletes; and, second, to test the reliability and validity of the resulting 19-item scale on a sample of 311 heterosexual and 160 LG athletes.

The present work was elaborated with a twofold aim. On one side we review the most important studies investigating the consequences of ostracism and on the other side we provide a deepening of the negative consequences of ostracism for people belonging to stigmatized groups, specifically towards gay people. Being ostracized represents a negative and painful experience that is moderated by the group membership only when it is an essential part of the self-identity, such as the race.

"Maricas" was the disparaging name given in EUPOLIS' comedy MARIKAS to the DEMAGOGUE, HYPERBOLUS. The name is derived from Old PERSIAN marīka- "menial" (Cassio 1985); Hesychius (μ283) confirms its BARBARIAN origin and servile associations, and glosses it with kinaidos "passive homosexual".
