Is oxidative stress involved in vernal keratoconjunctivitis? Results from a pilot study in children

Abstract
Background: Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a rare chronic conjunctivitis characterized
by a predominantly eosinophil-mediated inflammatory disorder that could
develop critical complications such as blindness. Oxidative stress plays a pivotal role
in the pathogenesis of several allergic diseases. The role of oxidative stress has been
hypothesized in VKC, but no study explored this issue. Furthermore, cyclosporine A
(CsA) exerts an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action on the conjunctiva.

Glutathione infusion before primary percutaneous coronary intervention: A randomised controlled pilot study

Objective: In the setting of reperfused ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) contributes to reperfusion injury. Among ROS, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) showed toxic effects on human cardiomyocytes and may induce microcirculatory impairment. Glutathione (GSH) is a water-soluble tripeptide with a potent oxidant scavenging activity. We hypothesised that the infusion of GSH before acute reoxygenation might counteract the deleterious effects of increased H2O2 generation on myocardium.

Efficient synthesis and first regioselective C-6 direct arylation of imidazo[2,1-c][1,2,4]triazine scaffold and their evaluation in H2O2-induced oxidative stress

Oxidative stress and apoptosis are both associated with various acute and chronic disorders. Thus, the aim of the present study is to synthesize imidazo[2,1-c][1,2,4]triazines derivatives and to evaluate their effects in H2O2-induced oxidative stress in human neuroblastoma cell line (SH-SY5Y cells). The effects of the compounds on cell viability were measured by MTT assay and the changes in stress and apoptosis-related proteins were investigated by PathScan® Stress and Apoptosis Signaling Antibody Array kit and Western Blot technique.

A bimetallic nanocoral Au decorated with Pt nanoflowers (bio)sensor for H2O2 detection at low potential

In this work, we have developed for the first time a method to make novel gold and platinum hybrid bimetallic nanostructures differing in shape and size. Au-Pt nanostructures were prepared by electrode- position in two simple steps. The first step consists of the electrodeposition of nanocoral Au onto a gold substrate using hydrogen as a dynamic template in an ammonium chloride solution. After that, the Pt nanostructures were deposited onto the nanocoral Au organized in pores.

Oxidative functionalization of aliphatic and aromatic amino acid derivatives with H2O2 catalyzed by a nonheme imine based iron complex

The oxidation of a series of N-acetyl amino acid methyl esters with H2O2catalyzed by a very simple iminopyridine iron(ii) complex 1 easily obtainable in situ by self-assembly of 2-picolylaldehyde, 2-picolylamine, and Fe(OTf)2was investigated. Oxidation of protected aliphatic amino acids occurs at the α-C-H bond exclusively (N-AcAlaOMe) or in competition with the side-chain functionalization (N-AcValOMe and N-AcLeuOMe). N-AcProOMe is smoothly and cleanly oxidized with high regioselectivity affording exclusively C-5 oxidation products.
