The identity of papal soldiers in the early modern age

The disproportion between the continuous attention to the military orders by the popes of the early modern age and the meager results obtained is evident. However, these were not imposed by the religious foundations of the State of the Church. The pope’s army never worked effectively because it failed to build a peculiar identity for those who militated within it. By resorting to sociology, this paper traces the mechanisms of identity building and shows the cultural proposal of a “Soldier of the Holy Church”, with repercussions in military legislation and even in the history of art.

Ambivalence of the notion of “Mimesis”: between the opening towards the other and the repetition of the same

One of the main characteristics of the contemporary aesthetic debate is the recovery of the concept of mimesis, as a dimension that is originally involved in the foundation of human culture and the processes of cultural learning. This is evident in the aesthetic reflection developed by Gunter Gebauer and Christoph Wulf. For these two authors, mimesis is never a mere reproduction of the given reality, but always implies the production of the New, of the Other, of the different with respect to the empirical world, i.e. to the existing categorical order of the world.

L'identità umana dopo Darwin

The concept of human identity is generally built upon the view that human beings are somehow central and unique among all the other living beings. Nonetheless, presumed human uniqueness is no longer tenable after the “revolution” caused by Darwin’s theory. According to the scientific image produced by Darwinian biology human beings can no longer be understood as the outcome of a project. Furthermore, cognitive ethology undermines also the idea that Homo sapiens is equipped with unique capacities and shows unique behaviors.

Conflitti non residuali. Per un'integrazione della proposta di Emanuela Ceva

Emanuela Ceva's remarkable amendment to political liberalism ushers in more tenable notions of value and conflict. Yet, in this note I claim that they could be reinforced. In particular, I contend that values are manifestations of a deeper interplay of belief and practice. Based on this, I advance a more radical view of conflicts as productive of politica! identities. The text concludes by explaining why this integration to the notions of value and conflict might benefit Ceva's theoretical project.

the correspondence between journalistic identity and journalistic
professionalism is clear; on the other side, this correspondence might
not be explicit. The paper presents a theoretical analysis on the main
critical issues raised by the use of SNs by journalists, and the results
