Implant-supported rehabilitation using gbr combined with bone graft on a reconstructed maxilla with the fibula free flap

Alveolar ridge augmentation procedures allow restoring jaw defects due to teeth extractions, periodontal diseases, trauma, or outcomes from a previous surgery. This case report describes a patient suffering from Fibrous Dysplasia of the right upper maxilla surgically reconstructed by fibula free flap. In 2003, four dental implants were placed in the 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, and 1.6 areas. Twelve years later, the onset of peri-implantitis led to the failure of osseointegration with consequent thinning of the fibula flap.

Evaluation of the accuracy of a patient-specific instrumentation

Patient-specific instruments (PSI) has been introduced with the aim to reduce the overall costs of the implants, minimizing the size and number of instruments required, and also reducing surgery time. The aim of this study was to perform a review of the current literature, as well as to report about our personal experience, to assess reliability and accuracy of patient specific instrument system in total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

The effect of postmastectomy radiation therapy on breast implants. Material analysis on silicone and polyurethane prosthesis

The pathogenic mechanism underlying capsular contracture is still unknown. It is certainly a multifactorial process, resulting from human body reaction, biofilm activation, bacteremic seeding, or silicone exposure. The scope of the present article is to investigate the effect of hypofractionated radiotherapy protocol (2.66 Gy × 16 sessions) both on silicone and polyurethane breast implants.Silicone implants and polyurethane underwent irradiation according to a hypofractionated radiotherapy protocol for the treatment of breast cancer.
