international migration

A preliminary assessment of the effects of migration on the production structure in Europe: A labor task approach

We assess the effect of migration on the production structure in a selection of European countries for the pre-Great Recession period 2001-2009. We propose a labor-task approach where the inflow of migrants raises the relative supply of manual-physical (or simple) tasks and therefore favors simple-task intensive sectors. We use the US O*NET database in conjunction with European labor data to calculate the index of simple-task intensity at the industry and country level.

What are the main factors associated with immigrants’ subjective well-being in Italy? Evidence from self-reported life satisfaction

Using data from the survey on “Social Condition and Integration of Foreign Citizens” collected by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) in 2011–2012, the aim of this paper is to study immigrants’ subjective well‐being in Italy, evaluating the main individual factors associated with self‐reported life satisfaction among first‐generation immigrants regularly residing in Italy.

Equilibrium indeterminacy in one-sector small open economy. The role of international labor migration

This paper presents a Ramsey-like dynamic small open economy with endogenous labormigration. In the model, the domestic economy is free to borrow or lend as much as itwants at the given world interest rate, and individuals are supposed to be free to move froma country to another in response to the emergence of a wage differential between countries. Our analysis can be ideally split in two parts. Initially, we propose a baseline model inwhich only natives are allowed to save and invest in capital assets and traded bonds, whereas immigrants are credit constrained.
