PRIN 2020 - Cultural interactions and language contacts: Iranian and non-Iranian languages in contact from the past to the present/Interazioni culturali e contatti linguistici: lingue iraniche e non iraniche a contatto dall'antichità ad oggi

The Project aims to investigate past and present relationships between languages and peoples, contact phenomena and language change in some Iranian speaking areas. The focus will be on a selected range of contact situations, diverse with regard to the degree of contact, and contact-induced changes (a) in Iranian, (b) through contact with Iranian and (c) across Iranian varieties over a period ranging from Achaemenid times to the present.

Activities of the Italian archaeological mission in Iraqi Kurdistan: a preliminary report

The Italian Archaeological Mission in Iraqi Kurdistan (MAIKI) of Sapienza University of Rome aims to study thehistorical, linguistic and cultural development of the Kurdish region. MAIKI activities are focused on the study of the archaeological stratigraphy of the Erbil Citadel and the Sasanian monument of Paikuli and its surroundings. The present article introduces the MAIKI research projects in these sites, themethodologies, themain problems and thepreliminary results obtained so far.

This paper is dedicated to the memory of Palmira Cipriano, Professor of Linguistics in Rome University 'La Sapienza'; it is a brief sketch of her scientific profile and her investigations concerning philological and linguistic issues in Iranian, Classical and Romance studies.
