The authors offer an insight on the Late Bronse Age/ Early Iron Age evidence from the megalithic sanctuary at Tas-Silġ (Malta) in the framework of the socio-economic transformation in the Central Mediterranean in the late 2nd - early 1st millennia BC.
The authors propose an interpretive hypothesis for the occurrence of a number of
clay anchors and clay spindle whorls inside a narrow chamber of the Tas-Sil? “sanctuary”
dating to the Ba?rija period (11th-8th centuries BC). Although these objects
may result from textile production carried out within the “sanctuary”, it seems likely
that such a concentration testifies a symbolic activity of some kind, perhaps a votive
deposition.
