Breast surgeons updating on the thresholds of COVID-19 era: Results of a multicenter collaborative study evaluating the role of online videos and multimedia sources on breast surgeons education and training

OBJECTIVE: Current trends show a rise of attention given to breast cancer patients' quality of life and the surgical reconstructive result. Along with this trend, surgical training quality and efficacy are gaining importanceand innovative training methods such as onlinevideos shared on social media portals, are becoming main updating tools. In hazardous times like COVID-19 pandemic nowadays, online communication becomes of vital importance and adaptation and innovation are fundamental to keep research and education alive.

Critical decision-making in radiotherapy for early stage breast cancer in a neo-adjuvant treatment era

In breast cancer management, the role of adjuvant radiation therapy (RT) has been the subject of intense controversy over the past several years, due to the improvement in neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) prescription. One of the most controversial questions regarding indication for adjuvant RT is whether or not RT is essential in patients with early stage disease at diagnosis. The value of adjuvant RT remains highly debatable in those patients with clinically negative nodes at the completion of NACT.

Advanced hemostasis in axillary lymph node dissection for locally advanced breast cancer: New technology devices compared in the prevention of seroma formation

Background: Breast cancer is the most frequent neoplasm in women. Axillary lymph nodes dissection represents the treatment of choice in locally advanced breast cancer for prognostic and curative purposes. Seroma formation, an abnormal collection of fluid in the dead space of the axilla, is described in Literature with a wide range of incidence (3-85%). It is a source of significant morbidity and discomfort.

Postsurgical ultrasound evaluation of patients with prosthesis in acellular dermal matrix: results from monocentric experience

Mastectomy and breast prosthetic reconstruction is the most common surgical treatment for women diagnosed with breast cancer. In the last few years, breast prosthetic augmentation in acellular dermal matrix (ADM) has been introduced. The aim of this study is to present our single-center experience in evaluating the outcome of patients who underwent breast reconstruction in ADM, using ultrasound (US) examination.

The effect of postmastectomy radiation therapy on breast implants. Material analysis on silicone and polyurethane prosthesis

The pathogenic mechanism underlying capsular contracture is still unknown. It is certainly a multifactorial process, resulting from human body reaction, biofilm activation, bacteremic seeding, or silicone exposure. The scope of the present article is to investigate the effect of hypofractionated radiotherapy protocol (2.66 Gy × 16 sessions) both on silicone and polyurethane breast implants.Silicone implants and polyurethane underwent irradiation according to a hypofractionated radiotherapy protocol for the treatment of breast cancer.

Evaluation of prepectoral implant placement and complete coverage with TiLoop Bra mesh for breast reconstruction: a prospective study on long-term and patient-reported BREAST-Q outcomes

Background: Breast reconstruction is rapidly evolving, because of the changing face of cancer surgery and the growing acceptance of acellular dermal matrices and synthetic meshes. Although some early reports showed encouraging results after prepectoral breast reconstruction, there is a paucity of data on long-term outcomes. Methods: Between January of 2012 and March of 2015, 179 patients undergoing mastectomy were enrolled at the authors’ institution.
