Development of a new screening tool for cyber pornography. Psychometric properties of the Cyber Pornography Addiction Test (CYPAT)

Objective: Internet pornography addiction typically involves viewing, downloading and trading online pornography or engagement in adult fantasy role-play. There are some well-validated inventories measuring perceived addiction to internet pornography but these instruments are often too long for a functionally use and fast scoring.

The Work Agentic Capabilities (WAC) Questionnaire: Validation of a New Measure

Agentic capabilities refer to the basic capabilities of mind that, according to social cognitive theory, allow people to
proactively influence their functioning and external context. This study presents a new scale, namely the Work Agentic
Capabilities (WAC) questionnaire, that consists of 28 items and measures forethought capability, self-regulation capability,
self-reflection capability and vicarious capability in the organizational context. Accordingly, an exploratory (N = 290)

A sociotechnical analysis of accounting for employee health and safety: evidence from a multiple case study

The interest concerning accounting for employee health and safety (H&S) is relatively recent (Jallon et al. 2011). The aim is ‘to improve employees’ workability as well as the health of the organization’ (Johanson et al. 2007, p. 24) and to provide information on employees’ health, so that appropriate actions can be taken, and the interplay between employee well-being and organization’s targets can be

Intelligent wheelsets for the trains of the future. The role of in-service wheel-rail force measurement // Sale montate intelligenti per il treno del futuro. Il ruolo della misura in esercizio delle forze ruota-rotaia

Summary-The European rail sector has a strong interest in innovations for monitoring the operational condition of a running vehicle. Many high technology systems can lead up to future rail systems relying on “intelligent vehicles”. This document describes the conceptual development of a monitoring system based on FEM calculations. The system uses signals from wheel-fitted transducers.

Managing knowledge in organizations: a Nonaka’s SECI model operationalization

Purpose: The SECI model (Nonaka, 1994) is the best-known conceptual framework for understanding knowledge generation processes in organizations. To date, however, empirical support for this framework has been overlooked. The present study aims to provide an evidence-based groundwork for the SECI model by testing a multidimensional questionnaire Knowledge Management SECI Processes Questionnaire (KMSP-Q) designed to capture the knowledge conversion modes theorized by Nonaka. Methodology: In a twofold study, the SECI model was operationalized via the KMSP- Q.

Comparing recall vs. recognition measures of accident under-reporting

Over 3 million work-related injuries and illnesses occur annually. This symposium presents five empirically, contextually, and methodologically diverse studies that provide insight on how to enact effective safety interventions given different national, industry, and organizational features. The session opens with empirical findings from a large scale study undertaken in hospitals in China and India, providing important evidence on the role of national and organizational labor practices in safety management.

The WVAL. A new measure of work values

This study presents a new scale to measure work values. The Work Values questionnaire (WVal) consists of 10 sets of 5 value items that respondents rank for importance. Each item expresses 1 of the 10 basic values of the Schwartz theory in the work context. Seven hundred fifty-nine employees from 94 organizations responded to the WVal. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) assessment of the 10 work values exhibited adequate factorial distinctiveness as well as high internal reliability.

Scales and Scaling

In social sciences the term“scaling” encompasses specific processes tomeasure properties such as sentiment, opinions, attitudes, and so on. “To scale” can mean very different things: by scaling techniques such as Likert scales or Guttman scales the researcher can rank people along a specific dimension; other techniques, if the requirements for their application are met, allow the researcher to quantify the distances among people along a dimension. Moreover, scaling techniques differ in terms of the cognitive put to the respondent.

Joint management of energy consumption, maintenance costs and user revenues in cellular networks with sleep modes

We target the maximization of the operator profitability in a LTE cellular network with e-NodeBs (eNBs) exploiting Sleep Mode (SM) power states. The profitability is composed of different terms, namely: the electricity bill due to the eNBs energy consumption, the maintenance costs due to the application of power states to the eNBs, and the revenues from providing a given throughput to users. After showing that all these components are strictly interdependent, we formulate the problem of maximizing the profitability for a set of eNBs.
