Transient-state analysis of MV instrument transformers

This study illustrates how selected instrument voltage transformers (VTs-I) behave in a transitory state. Some laboratory tests are conducted on medium voltage (MV) inductive voltage types to evaluate the voltage transferred from primary to secondary windings when a fast voltage impulse (1.2/50 μs) excites three machines constructively in different ways. Possible effects of metal parts present in the laboratory on the VTs-I behavior are analyzed, and other tests are conducted to determine a suitable shielding for the VTs-I.

Prevention of UV radiation hazard

The aim of this paper is to present the main issues concerning the protection of outdoor workers from UV natural radiation, in order to prevent the UV adverse effects, and to discuss the current measurement tools available for workers, evidencing their deficits. A wearable smart sensor for monitoring the effective exposure of the individual worker is proposed as innovative solution.

The alphasat Aldo Paraboni propagation experiment: measurement campaign at the Italian ground stations

Terabit capacity and very high data rates are required for the near‐future broadbandsatellite communication systems, mainly for multimedia services. The increased capac-ity can be obtained by using the larger bandwidth available at higher frequency bands, like Ka and Q/V. However, severe detrimental atmospheric effects impair radio wavesat these bands, which require the extensive use of fade mitigation techniques, suchas link power control, site diversity, or on‐board adaptive power allocation.

Ex vivo dielectric properties of fat. Influence of the experimental conditions on the measured data

The recent developments of medical applications of electromagnetic fields in both diagnostic and therapeutic scenarios has posed the attention on the accurate knowledge of the dielectric properties of human tissues. Accordingly, several studies were recently devoted to the measurements of such properties under various physiological conditions. Since biological tissues show a high variability, to compare the different data it is necessary to thoroughly control the experimental conditions.
