What is the role of somatic symptoms in the relationship between depression and problematic videogame use?

In the last decade there has been a growing concern about dysfunctional use of technologies including Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) a condition that requires further research before its consideration as a formal disorder in the DSM-5. Adolescents are more likely to exhibit risk-taking behaviors and difficulties in emotion regulation. The association between IGD and mental health has been explored across a range of studies. However, few studies have been conducted to examine the relation between IGD and somatic symptoms in adolescence.

Procedural anxiety, pain catastrophizing, and procedure-related pain during EGD and colonoscopy

Objectives Although sedatives and analgesic drugs defuse anxiety and relieve pain, digestive endoscopy still is uncomfortable and painful for some patients. Identifying patients who tolerate digestive endoscopy less well remains difficult. The present study evaluated the relations between procedural anxiety, catastrophizing thoughts, and pain, using a prospective design and multimodal assessments of pain. Methods A total of 118 consecutive patients were assessed for procedural anxiety before endoscopy. During endoscopy, a doctor rated the patients' pain behavior.

The role of individuals’ and their partners’ positivity in the satisfaction with the relationship: An Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model

Over the last thirty years, the actor-partner interdependence model (Kenny, 1996) became an important methodology to address interpersonal perceptions in dyads. In this contribution, we present each practical step to conduct an extended version of it, the actor-partner interdependence mediation model (Ledermann, Macho, & Kenny, 2011) using multilevel modeling. Specifically, we posit that individuals’ and their romantic partners’ positivity, a personality disposition, enhance relationship satisfaction, through the individuals’ perceptions of partners’ positivity.

Longitudinal relations among positivity, perceived positive school climate, and prosocial behavior in colombian sdolescents

Bidirectional relations among adolescents' positivity, perceived positive school climate, and prosocial behavior were examined in Colombian youth. Also, the role of a positive school climate in mediating the relation of positivity to prosocial behaviors was tested. Adolescents (N=151; M-age of child in Wave 1=12.68, SD=1.06; 58.9% male) and their parents (N=127) provided data in two waves (9months apart). A model of bidirectional relations between positivity and perceived positive school climate emerged.

Heart rate variability mediates the link between rumination and depressive symptoms: A longitudinal study

Ruminative thinking about negative feelings has been prospectively associated with increases in depressive symptoms and heightened risk for new onsets of major depression. One putative pathophysiological mechanism underlying this link might be represented by autonomic nervous system dysfunction. The objective of this longitudinal study was to evaluate the interplay between rumination, autonomic function (as revealed by heart rate variability (HRV) analysis), and depressive symptoms in healthy young subjects, over a three-year period.

Etnografia della contingenza: postcritica come ricerca delle connessioni

This article sets forth a tentative genealogy of postcritique and in particular of how
some of Bruno Latour’s insights on epistemology and the methodology of social
sciences have paved the way for a postcritical approach to the study of the social. To
this end, I centre on two major breaks with critical paradigms. First, the rejection of an
understanding of knowledge as a self-referential system of classification. Second, the
dismissal of the idea that social action always occurs within a broader context. Based
