Connections: The Use Social Associations With Migratory Background Make of ICT to Build Social Capital for Newcomers’ Social Integration

Psychological studies in the field of migration attest that social integration is enhanced by social capital. Communities of origin and the ones of resettlement play different role in the promotion of newcomers’ social integration. Nevertheless, researches highlighted that connections between migrants and resettlement communities are the hardest to be established. By reinforcing existing ties and generating new connections among communities, ICT represent a resource for the creation of migrants’ social capital.

Homeless persons and migrants in precarious housing conditions and COVID-19 pandemic: peculiarities and prevention strategies

Homeless persons and migrants in precarious housing conditions are vulnerable populations that have been peculiarly impacted by the Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic. These populations are more at risk of contracting COVID-19 as they often find it difficult to adhere to public health directives and, if exposed, may be more susceptible to illness or death due to the higher prevalence of underlying physical and mental comorbidities compared to the general population.

Homeless Shelter Characteristics and Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2

In this article, the authors have compared the characteristics of five different homeless shelters in Rhode Island, USA, and evaluated the prevalence of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection among their residents (n=299) using RT-PCR nasopharyngeal swabbing. The overall prevalence across all shelters was 11.7%; however, a large difference was found between shelters, as 3/5 had no cases while two had 21.6% and 35.3% of positive cases, respectively.

Resilience in migrant population: supportive factors and practices.

Many migrants, especially those with more vulnerable or precarious positions and refugees, face multiple stressors and traumatic experiences which may have long-term adversely implications for their well-being and physical and mental health. Despite these major stressors, many migrants show resilience and do not develop disorders (Cardoso & Thompson, 2010; Greeff & Holtzkamp, 2007; Pieloch, McCullough, & Marks, 2016; Rashid & Gregory, 2014). Resilience has been defined in different ways.

Parkinson's disease among migrants in Europe: estimating the magnitude of an emerging phenomenon

INTRODUCTION:
The occurrence of age-related pathological conditions among subjects with a migration background and composing ethnic minorities is an emerging challenge for Western countries. Specifically, the onset of neurodegenerative diseases in these populations of individuals might assume special relevance and generate additional complexities for our healthcare systems. The aim of the present study was to estimate the number of Parkinson's disease (PD) cases in migrant subjects living in Europe.
METHODS:

Have Romanians changed the use of Italian healthcare services after their entry into EU?

Background:

The appropriate use of the National Health Systems (NHS) can be difficult for foreigners, leading to misuse of emergency rooms (ERs) and to underuse of primary care services. This study investigated the risk of avoidable hospitalization using Prevention Quality Indicators (PQIs) for several chronic and acute conditions that can be prevented with appropriate ambulatory care among Romanians, the most representative foreign population in Rome, highlighting differences before and after their entry into the EU in 2007.

Methods:

Accesses to ER for Alcohol and Drugs Related Conditions among Foreigners in Rome, 1999-2014
